Evaluation of EC Data Collection Framework - Lot 2 Europe

DG MARE Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (European Commission) - Project Dates:
March 2012 - December 2012

Description of Project:
In 2008 the Data Collection Framework (DCF), covering the 22 coastal Member States, was introduced. Under this regulation the European Commission requires Member States to collect data on biological and economic aspects of many European fisheries and related fisheries sectors.

The purpose of this evaluation was to assess the results obtained by the DCF and to verify that they were consistent with the objectives set, and to thereby facilitate better informed decision making in the area of data collection and management, especially with a view to contribute to the development of the new EU MAP 2014-2020 and to improve the management by Member States and stakeholders of the data collection system.

Services Provided:
Poseidon helped develop the evaluation questions and then conducted interviews with key stakeholders including STECF and JRC staff along with Member State case studies in Ireland and Poland.
