Support to Fisheries Sector Policy and Strategy Formulation Pakistan

Description of Project:
The overall objective of this TCP project was to create an enabling environment conducive to the sustainable development and management of a growing fisheries sector, with emphasis on its contribution to economic growth, poverty alleviation, food security and environmental conservation.

The project focused on capture fisheries and aquaculture and:
1. supported the preparation of a wide-ranging participatory analysis of the fisheries sector;
2. supported the participatory development of a fisheries sector policy; and
3. helped to build the capacity of MINFAL to undertake participatory sector analysis and fisheries policy development in the future.



Services Provided:
Poseidon staff provided fisheries policy expertise and facilitation to the project inception workshop, which agreed detailed project activities and methodologies. Additional inputs were provided over an 18 month period to comment on draft policy documents, to advise on policy formulation and implementation, to prepare policy development and implementation manuals, to conduct an institutional assessment for policy implementation, and to prepare future project proposals for government funding
