Project pre-preparation of a project to support value-added improvements in processing and marketing of tilapia Egypt

Description of Project:
The objective of the project was to: assess whether a project focussed on facilitating the development of new market opportunities for Egyptian farmed fish will help to secure the sustainability of the current industry and generate new jobs and economic opportunities in added value processing and associated activities.

Services Provided:

A report was prepared comprising the main findings, conclusions and recommendations regarding:
1. An update (from a 2011 WorldFish market study) and expansion of the information on likely markets for added value farmed fish products.
2. A value chain analysis - covering the links from pond side to consumers - of the most likely processes and products (including by-products), including benchmarking with competitive products.
3. Recommendations on appropriate quality management systems across the value chain.
4. Recommendations to be taken into account in the preparation of the Project Proposal/Project Document.
