Human Capacity Development in Fisheries Global

Food and Agricultural Organisation FAO - Project Dates:
March 2003 - May 2004

Description of Project:
A review was provided of the reasons for success and failure in human capacity development programmes, both within and outside the fisheries sector. Recent thinking on concepts such as the eco-systems approach and the SLA was reviewed to consider new skill-sets now felt necessary for effective human capacity development in fisheries, and a strategic framework for human capacity development was provided.

Services Provided:
Innovative forms of delivery mechanisms were suggested as being more appropriate than traditional classroom-based training. Approaches were made to institutions and organizations potentially interested in being involved with a new strategy for human capacity development. The special research needs of small-scale fisheries were also considered as part of the study.
