Impact assessment of marine extensions to Scottish Special Protected Areas

The blue economy concept (also referred to as ‘blue growth’) builds upon the longer-standing notion of integrated coastal management (ICM), to support sustainable growth and development emanating from economic activities in oceans, waterways and coastal zones, that minimises environmental degradation, biodiversity loss and unsustainable use of aquatic resources, while maximising economic and social benefits.

Poseidon is increasingly involved in blue economy initiatives, operating at different geographical scales. Recent work has included the preparation of ‘blue growth’ strategies for sea basins such as the Black Sea, reviewing country-level blue economy programmes, and sector and site-specific environmental impact assessments of maritime development such as offshore wind farms.
