Maritime and Fisheries Legislation UK / Ghana / Ivory Coast
Homarus - Project Dates:
September 2002 - September 2002
Description of Project:
Following the arrest of a fishing vessel in Ghanaian waters, fisheries and maritime laws in Ghana and Ivory Coast were reviewed to assess the definition of boundary delimitation, and the legal basis for maritime boundaries in the two countries in accordance with the UNCLOS.
The consultant contacted relevant national and international organisations to consider the validity of maritime boundary delimitation and enactment of appropriate laws and regulations in relevant countries. A short report was written to comment on the dispute, and the impact of uncertain boundaries on the legal position of the vesselís arrest.
