A paper was prepared for submission to FAO’s 25th Session of the Committee on Fisheries (COFI) on the potential for small-fisheries to contribute to food security and poverty alleviation. The paper was presented and discussed at the meeting of the Committee

Consideration was given to the extent of the problem, possible solutions, what is currently being done to combat poverty in small-scale fisheries, and the outlook for the future. Text for the paper was prepared in draft and then discussed with FAO staff for further refinement.
