Description of Project:
Regulation No 1379/2013 on the common organisation of the markets in fisheries and aquaculture products commited the Commission to prepare a feasibility report on options for an EU ecolabel scheme for fishery and aquaculture products.
This study contributed to this task. The objective of this study was:
- to analyse existing ecolabels and other forms of communicating environmental information for fisheries and aquaculture products in the EU;
- benchmark with other sectors, assess potential economic, social and environmental impacts;
- provide information on the feasibility, cost-effectiveness, advantages and disadvantages of options for an EU ecolabel scheme for fisheries and aquaculture projects.
This study presents a short introduction to ecolabels, then focuses on the findings of a range of tasks identified in the terms of reference and culminates in an assessment of options with regards to an EU ecolabel for fisheries and aquaculture products.
Services Provided:
Three Poseidon staff contributed to the analyse existing ecolabels, their benchmarking with other sectors, and assessed potential economic, social and environmental impacts. Yhet also led on assessing the feasibility, cost-effectiveness, advantages and disadvantages of options for an EU ecolabel scheme for fisheries and aquaculture projects.
