Description of Project:
This worjk with the Ecosystems Market Taskforce (EMTF)aims to support the development of the EMTF’s advice to Government on the opportunities for UK business to develop green goods, services, investment vehicles and markets which value and protect the natural environment.
One of the key areas the EMTF are interested in is fisheries, particularly the expansion of farm and fisheries certification schemes, the role of wider food industry and new labelling opportunities.
Services Provided:
Poseidon provided a fisheries specialist to assist the wider team in reviewing the economic case (costs, benefits, impacts) for business ‘opportunities’ relating to changing the incentives in farming and fisheries:
CAP Reform: Address/remove perverse subsidies - switch single farm subsidies to valuing nature and better targeting of agri-environment funding
Pesticides/fertilisers: Use of markets/incentives/environmental taxes to encourage more sustainable approaches
Expansion of farm and fisheries certification schemes and role of wider food industry
New labelling opportunities e.g. WWF hectare scheme
Business opportunities for farming sector in renewable energy – e.g. biogas/AD
