Support to update fisheries regulations in Belize Belize
ACP FISH II - Project Dates:
March 2013 - June 2013
Description of Project:
In 2010, with support from the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) the Belize Fisheries Department embarked on a process to revise the Fisheries Act. Since the Act had not been revised for many years, the latest addition was made in 1989, it was important to bring it up to date to meet the changes that have occurred at the global, regional, and national levels in the fisheries sector over the years.
The final Draft Bill incorporates modern conservation and management principles, it is in compliance with international laws, and will be able to withstand challenges of the local court. As such, it is timely to now revise the supporting Fisheries Regulations.
Services Provided:
The purpose of this assignment is to update the fisheries regulations to strengthen the capacity of the Fisheries Administration in managing marine and inland fisheries.
