Developing Scottish Inshore Fisheries Groups (IFGS) Management Plans UK
Scottish Government - Project Dates:
July 2008 - January 2009
Description of Project:
Inshore Fisheries Management Groups are to be established around the coast of Scotland. These industry-led groups will consider all aspects of fisheries management to ensure the sustainability of Scottish inshore fisheries and the dependent coastal communities. The groups will develop management plans, recommending management measures to the Scottish Government that may be supported through appropriate additional legislation.
The overall aim of the project is to provide guidance for the IFG management planning process in the form of a framework or model management plan. This guidance should be based on experiences of working with the three emerging IFGs pilots in Scotland and draw on UK and Overseas best practice in inshore fisheries management planning.
Services Provided:
In collaboration with North Atlantic Fisheries College, Poseidon will work with the 3 pilot Inshore Fisheries Groups (Outer Hebrides, Clyde and South East) to develop fisheries management plans that address agreed high level objectives based on locally determined actions.
