Description of Project:
The
COAST programme has £154 million in funding from the Blue Planet Fund and will run from 2023 to 2030.
COAST aims to improve the adaptive capacities, climate resilience and prosperity of vulnerable coastal communities in developing countries. It will support them with the sustainable management of their marine environment and coastal resources.
COAST will focus on key themes underpinning its aim, including:
- coastal nature-based solutions
- small-scale fisheries management
- sustainable aquaculture production
- inclusive coastal planning and governance
It has 4 components:
A: Integrated delivery at national level in priority countries & responsive TA facility with broader geography
B: Climate resilient and innovative SSF and SA
C: Unlocking blue carbon climate finance
D: Monitoring, learning and evaluation
Services Provided:
Under Component A of the programme (Integrated Delivery) there will be a mix of support via technical assistance, capacity building, grants, analysis, etc. focused on integrated delivery across COAST’s themes, and 3 sub-components (SC):
- SC1 – technical assistance/capacity building in 6 priority countries to improve policy environment, planning, finance flows, etc.
- SC2 – grants for local level action in 6 priority countries, helping to strengthen community resilience, resource stewardship, and bankable project pipelines
- SC3 – as SC1, but flexible and able to support governments, regional bodies and other institutions in any ODA eligible country
