WWF - Project Dates:
May 2012 - February 2013
Description of Project:
WWF is working with leading foundations and thought leaders to develop the China Sustainable Growth Fund (the Fund). The goal is to improve the sustainability of China’s overseas investments and international trade of select commodities by supporting China and its trading partners to reduce the impacts of commodity production, trade and investment.
Key to the planning phase is the development of Regional and Thematic Profiles, with the best available data and information organized into actionable briefs that provide practical guidance and insights.
The Seafood Profile was prioritized because of its significance to China, and China’s significance to seafood consumption: current estimates are that China represents 36% of global seafood production (60% of which is aquaculture) and 32% of global seafood consumption, making China perhaps the most important nation in the world to ensure the future sustainability of seafood.
