Investigation into ice provision for the South East England Fishing Industry UK
South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) - Project Dates:
February 2008 - May 2008
Description of Project:
The South East England fishing industry development plan recommended that ice provision across the region be investigated to identify where improvements and new infrastructure is needed as part of quality improvements across the fleet.
The objectives of this report were to:
• Take account of any previous work (SFIE) carried out in this area
• Provide an overview of the current situation.
• Report on best practice for each of the 26 landing areas with regard to icing of fish products
• Provide recommendations for capital investment, ownership of machines and maintenance costs and repairs
Services Provided:
Poseidon undertook a sector-wide consultation exercise to identify the current and likely future demand for ice based on best practice and existing provision.
Recommendations were made regarding the scale, location, funding and management of additional ice provision for the region to support fleet-wide catch quality improvements.
