Tracy Murai is a marine resource specialist with over 20 years of experience across consultancy, industry, and NGOs.
Tracy has worked extensively on illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, supply chain verification, regulatory compliance, and social accountability within the seafood sector. Her expertise includes auditing and certification, responsible sourcing, and the development of traceability frameworks for fisheries and aquaculture products, including marine ingredients. Before joining Poseidon, Tracy held senior roles at Thai Union Group, WWF, and MRAG Ltd. She has served on various technical committees and advisory councils for industry standards. At Thai Union, she led global fisheries sustainability initiatives, overseeing sourcing improvements and engaging with vessel owners, processors, and policymakers. During her tenure at WWF, she managed sustainable fisheries and aquaculture programs, contributing to international conservation efforts and market-driven solutions for responsible seafood production. She has collaborated with retailers, processors, producers, governments, NGOs, and certification bodies to advance best practices in traceability, responsible sourcing, and environmental sustainability. She is also experienced in capacity building and has developed and delivered training programs on fisheries management, social accountability, and compliance with international standards and conventions.
Tracy has extensive experience with EU and international fisheries regulations, including the EU IUU Regulation, as well as various certification schemes. She has conducted numerous audits and assessments of seafood supply chains worldwide, focusing on environmental, human rights, and ethical labour practices. She has managed fisheries improvement projects (FIPs), developed bycatch mitigation strategies, and conducted sustainability assessments for both wild capture and aquaculture operations.
Tracy holds an MSc in Aquatic Resource Management from King’s College London and a BSc (Hons) in Marine Geography from Solent University. She is a certified Lead Auditor (ISO 17065/SA8000) and has completed professional training in project management (PRINCE2), negotiation, and leadership. Her work has taken her across all EU member states and over 20 non-EU countries, providing her with a comprehensive understanding of international seafood markets, fisheries governance, and traceability systems.
